Personal Philosophy: Birth is a normal event in a healthy women's life.
My role is one of support and facilitation, encouragement and empowerment. There is a special magic in being with a women who has a belief in her own ability to birth her baby without interference.
Practice History: My Midwifery training was completed at Auckland Institute of Technology, the following year I was able to upgrade my Diploma to a Degree in Health Science (Mid). It took persistence but it was worth it.
After consolidating my training at North Shore Hospital I spent 2 and a half years as a Continuity Midwife at Waitakere Hospital. Down here in Wanganui I have been practicing independently since September 2001, averaging between 3 - 5 clients per month. My back up midwife is Cheryl Baker.
My professional membership is with the New Zealand College of Midwives where I can access regular practice evaluation and collegial support. We hold regular meetings in the Wanganui area.
Another membership is with the Wanganui Homebirth Association which meets every 2 months and is comprised of Midwives, women planning homebirths and women who have had homebirths.
Geographical coverage: Wanganui
Specific birthplace options: Hospital, home, water, land, you name it.
I hold a current access agreement with Good Health Wanganui
I am competent to care for women with normal labours and also for women who require an epidural or need an assisted delivery, I am able to refer to the appropriate specialist if this is needed.
I have a special interest in caring for women with a history of childhood sexual abuse or PTSD from a previous bas birth experience.
I include in my practice the use of homeopathics and aromatherapy, it's nice and it works.
