Kia Ora.  I have practised midwifery extensively since 1977 in a variety of settings and have continued postgraduate studies in midwifery.  I live in rural Central Otago and provide midwifery care as a Lead Maternity Carer (LMC) for local women birthing in the area.  This is quality maternity care that is accessible, free, friendly and professional:

Birth is a normal life event and I believe that the majority of healthy women have the ability to give birth normally without intervention or disruption.  Each woman and baby is unique; so if a complication should arise then specialist opinion and / or input is readily obtained.  Because of the rural (and sometimes remote) nature of this region, I find that booking about three women on average per month for full care allows me to maintain a high standard of care and availability for my total caseload.  I am actively committed to continuity of care and informed choices (or informed refusal for that matter).  I see the provision of accurate information, the sharing of knowledge, and personalised support throughout as vital in enabling women to determine the best choices for themselves and their babies.  I regard the care following the birth to be just as important as before, thus postnatal care is individually tailored to the needs of each mother and baby to help inspire confidence and facilitate enjoyment in parenting.  Throughout it is rather like we are partners sharing a special journey together. 

I have a high level of knowledge and expertise in relation to breastfeeding.  I am deeply interested in a range of complementary therapies, including the contribution water can make towards a gentle labour and birth.  Extensive informational resources are available for clients.  I am a founder member of the NZCOM, and voluntarily review my standards of practice annually.  Enquiries are welcomed and a more detailed introduction to myself and the services offered can be emailed at your request.
