Born and bred in New Zealand, I am new to the South Island, but thanks to the influence of my husband, have fallen in love with Dunedin.

I have worn many hats in my life, and am well travelled and lived. I finally found my ‘calling’ and studied direct-entry midwifery, which means I have dedicated my knowledge-base to midwifery.

I love my job, but find that carrying a caseload of only 2-3 women a month, means I can still be a full-time mother (and part-time wife!) yet provide quality care to women.

Woven within my practice philosophy are my personal beliefs and experiences. I believe that pregnancy, childbirth and parenting are normal, physiological life events. I encourage women to believe in their innate abilities as women and achieve positive pregnancy, birth and parenting outcomes.

I myself had two beautiful homebirths, one in the water.  And consequently have a deep respect and love for both homebirth and waterbirth. However in saying that, I am equally comfortable in the hospital setting, and strive to achieve primary birthing outcomes for the women I work with. My annual statistics reflect these outcomes especially since waterbirth and hydrotherapy are integral to my practice, with most of my clients utilising water during labour and/or birth...

The integration of personal beliefs and practice philosophies extend into parenting. Where I would describe myself as a ‘natural’ mother, and commit to breastfeeding for as long as possible, bed share with my infants and use a sling to carry them. I encourage my clients to listen to their children’s needs to ensure a secure and happy infant. Needless to say, women find their own feet as mothers, and I see myself in the position to offer and share information so that each family can find their own methods and parenting style.

I have been practising as an independent midwife since 2008, but work in partnership with Tracy Williams and together we are ‘Confident Mothering’ Midwives.
