I trained as a Midwife in 1981 in England and had previously qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1978. I settled into New Zealand in 1986 and have three children, now young adults.

I worked locally as a Midwife at Motueka Maternity Unit until 1991 and then went into Independent practice.

I provide Midwifery care for women who plan births at home, at the Motueka Maternity Unit or Nelson Hospital.

My aim is to work in partnership with women sharing information throughout the pregnancy to prepare for the labour and birth and the parenting to come. I use complementary and alternative remedies/therapies as requested or appropriate.

My philosophy is that childbirth and parenting is a natural process. I wish to encourage women and their whanau to open their minds, absorb the information and explore the options that are available here in NZ.

I wish to provide women with the support and information to empower them to make the choices for their care and for their baby.

I provide midwifery care for 40-50 families a year. I arrange most of the antenatal and postnatal visits at the woman’s home. I work in this Nelson region with many other experienced Midwives and we provide a network of support for each other and for the families we are caring for.

I have now been working in independent practice for over 15 years and still thoroughly enjoy the special moments it provides.
