Anne Valentine
I have been a midwife since 1991, trained in Dunedin. I worked in the maternity unit for two years before becoming a midwife and then two years after graduating then began working in the community in 1993, offering hospital and home birthing. I beleive that continuity of care enables women to achieve a normal birth whenever possible. Contact me by phone, Email or call into the rooms on Mondays or Tuesdays.

I am a community based midwife, in practice with three other experienced midwives, offering care during pregnancy, childbirth and the first six weeks of a child’s life. We provide a highly personalised and caring service, with a strong commitment to continuity of care and respect for each woman’s individual needs and wishes. We book our own women and provide back-up for each other.
I believe that every woman is entitled to choose her own midwife, to have the opportunity to know and trust her, and to be confident of her support. Wherever a woman’s experience takes her, my role is to be a knowledgeable, careful companion, to provide information , support and skilful practical assistance and advocacy as necessary. As a primary , or community based midwife, I attend women in their own homes or in clinic but I also provide care in the hospital setting as necessary, for birth - including during caesarean section, epidural anaesthesia or induction of labour.
My career started in London in 1981 with Registered Nurse training after which I trained as a midwife in Oxford. Over the years I have practised in many different settings, in different countries and cultures and have acquired plenty of experience in normal birth, both at home and in hospital, with water birth, and in supporting women with complex medical needs. In providing safe and comprehensive care I value the support of my multi-disciplinary colleagues and encourage a collaborative approach.
I have been a midwife for a long time and I love what I do. I have a very supportive husband and family, with one grown daughter in London and three younger children at school. We came to Geraldine in South Canterbury from the UK five years ago and are very happy here.
If you would like to talk to me, I can be contacted at home, or on the cell phone, or by e-mail.
