Postgraduate Midwifery Training , Complex Care, National Women's Health

National Women's Health and Auckland University of Technology are collaborating to provide an exciting learning experience for midwives interested in developing their skills in complex midwifery care.

This hands-on course is for midwives who are highly committed to the profession and enjoy caring for high risk mothers throughout pregnancy, birth and postnatal period. You will have a minimum of two years recent, full-time, post grad experience and be able to dedicate nine months to working 0.8 or 0.9 FTE at National Women's (from 1st Mar 09 through to 28th Nov 09).

At the completion of this course you will have a postgraduate certificate in Health Science in Midwifery and be proficient in caring for women in a secondary/tertiary environment.

Midwives – Pukekohe Maternity Unit

We currently have vacancies at our primary maternity unit based in Pukekohe, situated 45 minutes from Middlemore Hospital for full or part time Registered Midwives.

Our unit has two birthing rooms that deliver approximately 400 births per year along with 8 postnatal care rooms. CMDHB has a strong primary care focus with our unit being an integral part of the overall maternity service plan.

Community Midwives Required

We work Monday-Friday 8-4.30 with reduced cover at weekends on a roster system. We aim to offer flexibility of shifts to meet the needs of the service and the midwives within this service.

To ensure that the best possible outcomes for women and babies are met, your skills and knowledge should include 12 months base hospital experience.

Midwives - Botany Downs Maternity Unit

Do you have a passion for primary midwifery care and want to work closer to where you live?

We currently have midwifery positions available in our community maternity unit located in the East Auckland region of Botany Downs.   

There is up to 370 babies born each year in this midwifery led unit, for which you will provide antenatal/intrapartum and postnatal care for women in our community. 

As the DHB is the primary caregiver for around 30% of the births, midwives employed in the unit have the opportunity to provide the full scope of midwifery care to women using this service. 

This 12 bedded BFHI accredited unit also receives another 1600 women for postnatal care from other hospitals.

Community Midwife, Specialising in Teenage Pregnancies

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Registered Midwife to join our existing Community Midwives based at Middlemore Hospital.

In this role you will be specialising and focusing on providing midwifery care for pregnant teenagers within the Counties Manukau region.

To succeed in this role you will be an effective communicator, sensitive to cultural/family needs and able to work within a multi disciplinary team setting.  A key element to this role is having previous experience in working with adolescents preferably in a community setting.

This role is Monday - Friday 8.00am - 4.30pm although occasional weekend shifts may be required.  It is remunerated on the new community midwifery pay scale.

Return to Midwifery Practice Programme

Are you thinking about returning to practice but don’t know where to start? We can help!

Counties Manukau DHB offers a Return to Midwifery Practice programme in order to meet individual requirements, recognising the different range of experience midwives have prior to having a break from practice.

We will support you during this course and upon completion, provide employment opportunities across primary, secondary and community services. We provide flexible employment options to ease you back into the workforce. We support a work-life balance philosophy.

Out of practice between 3 - 8 years

Generally a 4 week programme is arranged through CMDHB. This includes working clinically in different areas being completely supported with an experienced midwife. Assessment occurs against the competencies for entry to register. Study days also occur. Usually this is run full time; however a part time option can be negotiated.
