MERAS

MIDWIFERY EMPLOYEE REPRESENTATION & ADVISORY SERVICE (MERAS)

MERAS has been established as a dedicated and focused union for employed midwives with support from the New Zealand College of Midwives.  A national District Health Board (DHB) midwifery collective employment agreement for employed midwives has been negotiated and is now in operation for MERAS members at DHB’s.

These pages provide information about MERAS - its relationship with NZCOM, its organisational structure and the service it offers to employed midwives, and the midwifery collective agreement with the 21 DHB’s and the Quality and Leadership (QLP) programme. You will also find information on how to join MERAS.

MERAS has also developed a discussion document’ “Midwifery Staffing Standards for Maternity Facilities July 2010  You can read more about this and download a copy of the standards

For more information about MERAS you can contact MERAS on (03) 353 1166.

For basic information on laws relating to the workplace and the main rights and obligations of employers and employees, you may wish to go to the Department of Labour's Employment Relations Service website.
