Programme Workshops and Support Meetings 2012

Graduate Midwife Introductory Workshops and Support Meetings 2012

The graduate midwife introductory workshop (8 hours) will take graduate midwives through the Programme requirements, their responsibilities to the Programme and their mentor, the differences between mentoring, preceptoring and clinical supervision, mentoring in practice, negotiating relationships, and how communication and learning styles influence and impact on reflective practice and critical thinking.

Attendance at an introductory workshop and support meeting is compulsory and is funded by the MFYP Programme. Graduate midwives are expected to attend the workshop that is closest to where they live (the graduate midwife funding packages are based this). Please plan and arrange either locum / practice cover, a rostered day off or request leave from your employer for these dates.

The 2012 graduate midwife introductory workshops and support meetings will again be regional.

The dates and locations (subject to numbers) are as per the table below.

Mentor Development and Update Workshops and Support Meetings 2012

Mentor midwives who are new to the Programme are required to attend a 2-day mentor development workshop and 1-day support meeting. The 2-day workshop takes mentors through each of the Programme components and their role in relation to those, the various templates that the graduate and mentors have to complete, mentorship in practice, negotiating relationships, how communication and learning styles influence and impact on reflective practice and critical thinking, and opportunities to give and receive feedback. The 1-day support meeting provides mentors with an opportunity to describe, explore and reflect on their role as a mentor and the realities of mentoring in practice.

Returning mentors are required to attend a one day update workshop and a 1-day mentor support meetings (these will be a joint meeting with mentors new to the Programme in 2012).
