Programme Workshops and Support Meetings for 2009
| Graduate Midwife Workshops 2009 |
The graduate midwife workshop (1day) will take graduate midwives through the Programme requirements, their responsibilities to the Programme and their mentor, the differences between mentoring, preceptoring and clinical supervision, mentoring in practice, negotiating relationships, and how communication and learning styles influence and impact on reflective practice and critical thinking. The 2009 graduate midwife workshops will be regional and subject to numbers there will be two in Auckland and one each in Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. Attendance at the graduate workshop is compulsory and is funded by the MFYP Programme. Graduate midwives are expected to attend the workshop that is closest to where they live (the graduate midwife funding packages are based this). Please plan and arrange either locum / practice cover or request leave from your employer for this date. The dates are as per the table below. |

Mentor Development Workshops and Support Meetings 2009 - for mentors new to the Programme in 2009 Mentor midwives who are new to the Programme are required to attend a 2-day mentor development workshop. This workshop takes mentors through each of the Programme components and their role in relation to those, the various templates that the graduate and mentors have to complete, mentorship in practice, negotiating relationships, how communication and learning styles influence and impact on reflective practice and critical thinking, and opportunities to give and receive feedback. A 1-day mentor support meeting provides mentors with an opportunity to describe, explore and reflect on their role as a mentor and the realities of mentoring in practice. The mentor midwife workshops and support meetings will be regional and subject to numbers there will be two in Auckland and one each in Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch (this will be a joint meeting with mentors returning to the Programme in 2009). The dates for the mentor support meeting are yet to be confirmed but they will be mid 2009. Attendance at the mentor development workshop and support meeting is compulsory and is funded by the MFYP Programme.
