NZCOM Conference 2008

The New Zealand College of Midwives Conference 2008

The New Zealand College of Midwives was held at the Sky City Auckland Convention Centre between the 12^th and 14^th of September 2008.

The Conference was an overwhelming success and was attended by more than 700 consumers, midwives and students from all over New Zealand as well as some international delegates.

We would like to thank the members of the scientific committee and social committee in the Auckland region for their hard work and attention to detail which contributed to the overall success of this conference. We would also like to thank all of the speakers who presented and all the delegates who attended. Last but not least a big thank you to all the midwives who remained at work so that their colleagues could attend conference.

From the opening ceremony through to closing this conference was stimulating, entertaining and professional and weaved the conference themes of Choices, Challenges and Diversity throughout.

The conference was opened by the Associate Minister for Health Steve Chadwick and the opening ceremony featured school children from local schools showcasing the diversity of culture that encompasses Auckland and resulting in a standing ovation with not a dry eye in the house.

The conference moved into interesting and exciting Plenary speakers and then into the smaller but just as interesting concurrent sessions. Each speaker and session bought to life another facet of midwifery and childbirth, with all the challenges and rewards that working as a midwife brings.

We hope that all the delegates enjoyed the conference and look forward to posting the results from the evaluations.
