Destination – ROTORUA

The Rotorua district has a multi-cultural population of approximately 70,000 people. The district is centred around a thriving city on the southern shore of Lake Rotorua, and extends to include a number of rural and lakeside communities. An international tourism icon, Rotorua is renowned as the heartland of Maori culture.

From the moment you enter Rotorua you know you’re somewhere quite different. Whether it is the sneaky threads of steam finding unlikely escape routes in parks, pathways and streets or the distinct scent of sulphur wafting through geothermal hot spots, Rotorua offers an impressive welcome.

How to get there

Located in the central North Island, Rotorua is well connected to the rest of New Zealand, and the world, through a network of air and road links. The city is a leisurely three-hour drive from Auckland (234km), and only a 5-6-hour drive from Wellington (457km). Rotorua Airport offers services to Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown. Both Air New Zealand and Qantas fly into Rotorua. With the extension to the Airport runway currently underway, Trans Tasman services are expected to commence late in 2009. Regular updates on the Airport development and future airline announcements will be uploaded on to a special airport update page on www.rotoruaNZ.com in the conference section.

What’s the weather like?

Rotorua enjoys a pleasant climate - plenty of sun in summer with crisp clear days in winter. Rotorua averages over 2000 hours of sunshine and just over 140cm of rain each year.  Spring temperature: (Sep – Nov) Daytime 13 – 21ºC

Conference Venue

Energy Events Centre

Rotorua’s hottest venue – the Energy Events Centre, is a versatile and multi-purpose complex, located on the steamy edge of Lake Rotorua in picturesque Government Gardens.

The centre has car parks for 370, and is just a few minutes walk from its sister facility, the Rotorua Convention Centre, and from major hotels, cafes and restaurants.
