To be held in the Michael Fowler Centre, Wellington on 24 – 26 August 2012.
Conference Theme: Midwives working with women: integrating community, home and hospital
![]() | On behalf of the New Zealand College of Midwives, it is my pleasure to invite you to 12th NZCOM Biennial Conference, to be held in Wellington, 24 – 26 August 2012. The theme of our conference is Midwives working with women: integrating community, hospital and home. Working with women, their babies and their families during childbirth is both a privilege and a pleasure for midwives, who understand this profoundly emotional, significant and special time in each woman’s life. Midwives work in many different settings – the home, community, hospital, rural, urban - and aim to provide the very best maternity care for each woman, baby and family. They do this by working closely with each woman, her family and involving other services and personnel such as other midwives, doctors, other health professionals, and community support agencies when required. The New Zealand maternity service and midwives spans and integrates community primary maternity services and secondary hospital maternity services. This conference will be an opportunity for midwives, women and other health practitioners to explore how we can further develop the strong, supportive relationships that are necessary and which support the integration of these maternity services. We are delighted to have an amazing line up of speakers this year. From our keynote speaker, Nester T Moyo through to our concurrent sessions, there are chances to learn, research and find ways to enhance our own practices. Naturally, the conference is also an excellent time to meet up with colleagues and friends from throughout New Zealand, while enjoying the social elements the conference has to offer. I encourage you to support your conference, register now, book your flights and plan to make the most out of the conference. I look forward to seeing you in Wellington in August.
