Mō te tūranga – About the role
This role involves a very special blend of strength, compassion and cool-headedness. Within the Core Midwifery environment, no two days will be the same, and you’ll be involved with a range of midwifery practices. You will be Supporting Lead Maternity Carers/Caseloading Midwives accessing our rural maternity unit who provide inpatient labour and birth. You will assist with antenatal assessments, labour/birth cares and caring for birthing people and their whānau in a postnatal environment. We have a women and whānau centered approach to our care and you will be making a real difference to the patient experience.
Hours of work are Monday to Sunday inclusive, based on rostered shifts including nights, weekends and on-call.

To be considered for this role you will need to:
- be a Registered Midwife with a current Annual Practicing Certificate for New Zealand
- have excellent communication and the ability to easily build rapport with people from all walks of life
- be passionate about midwifery and have a real desire to provide the best care possible.

Mō mātou – About us
We are aiming to open our Primary Birthing Services in the Wānaka Region in the third quarter of 2024, this unit will provide community-driven care across pre-conception, pregnancy, birth, and early childhood health, aligned with the first 2,000 days Te Pae Tata planning and will operate four Clinic rooms, one Birth room, four Postnatal rooms and one Community room.
Southern Midwifery supports a very diverse maternity community spread across of the region, providing care to whanau in urban, rural and remote areas of the Southern region. To achieve our maternity and broader population health goals we work in partnership with Iwi, primary care and community providers, rural trust hospitals and education and research partners across the district.

Utu whānui – Salary range
This role is covered by the terms and conditions of the expired DHBs / MERAS Multi-Employer Collective Agreement and the salary will be in accordance with the Midwifery Pay Equity Settlement Agreement, Registered (Core) Midwives Salary Scale, between Step 2 and Step 7, $76,235 to $100,862 per annum, pro rata.
