Complex Care Education
What is Complex Care midwifery postgraduate education?
Complex care midwifery education is postgraduate level study which enables midwives to develop their clinical skills in specific areas of practice which are relevant to their current work setting, or possible future areas of practice. It is formal postgraduate education which requires attendance at academic lectures, assignments and course work as well as clinical placements.
How do I apply?
To apply for the Complex Care funding you will need to:
Enrol with your chosen tertiary education provider for the programme (Auckland University of Technology, Otago Polytechnic or Victoria University of Wellington)
Apply to the New Zealand College of Midwives (NZCOM) for funding to complete the programme – all expressions of interest will be advised when applications are open
If you are an employed midwife:
- Your application will need to be endorsed by your employer confirming that you can confirm that you will be eligible for the time off your usual rostered work to complete the programme expectations
If you are a self-employed midwife:
- Commit to being available (i.e arrange locum cover to ensure you can complete the programme requirements)
When do I have to enrol by?
The enrolment deadline for each of the academic providers is different, click the links for details:
Auckland University of Technology
Victoria University of Wellington
It is important for you to complete the enrolment early even though you will not be notified of a successful funding application until late January so that the university has indicative numbers for the course and is not cancelled due to lack of numbers. NZCOM's relationships with the education providers means that fees can be paid directly from NZCOM to the provider.
Application for funding is a separate process to academic enrolment. Applications for 2017 are now closed. 2018 applications will open in November 2017 - please contact Carla Martin on email@example.com or 03 372 9734.
