Midwives – Midwifery First Year of Practice (MFYP)

Start your career with Waikato hospital – Calling all new graduate midwives!

We are one of the largest hospitals on one campus in the Southern Hemisphere… but we are also a close-knit community with great staff support.

Waikato Hospital is a tertiary facility with over three and a half thousand births per year. As well as caring for women in the Waikato we are the referral centre for places like Gisborne and Rotorua so we see a lot of women with complex pregnancies.

This is a place that you can start consolidating your midwifery education with a planned, sustainable level of support behind you – our educators, mentor midwives, midwife managers and midwifery leaders are all ready to help and encourage you as much as we can. We have a great MFYP programme in place to make the transition from student to confident midwife as easy as possible.

You will rotate around all areas of the service (delivery suite, women’s assessment unit, ante and post-natal inpatients) gaining skills in caring for women with complexities in this amazing tertiary unit we have. There is dedicated education days provided just for new graduates and support on the floor from the many skilled midwives we have that will mentor you in each area.

The Waikato is a great place to work and live, with plenty of recreational activities, great shopping and few traffic worries. We are close to other major cities for world-renown concerts and events, and we host lots of world-class sports events here.

So spread the word and come and work for us! We look forward to hearing from you.
