Nāku te rourou, nāu te rourou, ka ora ai te iwi
With my basket and your basket, the people will thrive.
This eLearning opportunity explores the baskets of knowledge brought by midwives and whānau from refugee backgrounds to the maternity journey in Aotearoa.
The relational way that midwives work has the potential to positively contribute to former refugees’ resettlement in Aotearoa as they build their new lives and grow their whānau in their new home.
In this course, you will learn who former refugees are. You’ll hear the voices of some former refugee women in Aotearoa about what is important for midwives to know. You will learn important practice skills by strengthening your understanding of what supports former refugees to have positive midwifery and maternity care during their resettlement into their new homes.
This course may be counted towards a midwife’s compulsory cultural safety education hours under the 2024-2027 recertification cycle. The course is estimated to take up to 4 hours, when the midwife undertakes all the activities, reads and watches the linked resources and completes the self-reflection activities.
