Transfer to Well Child Tamariki Ora (WCTO) Services

The Lead Maternity Carer (LMC) midwife is responsible for midwifery care. Midwives have a collaborative relationship with other health providers and this includes the Well Child Tamariki Ora service (WCTO). The midwife will provide information about all the Well Child Tamariki Ora services that are in the area and it is the parents’ choice about which service is right for them. Some regions have options of Kaupapa Māori services and also Pasifika services.

When parents make a decision on their choice of WCTO services the LMC midwife will make a written referral to a provider of those services when the baby is around 2 – 4 weeks old, and from around six weeks of age baby care transfers from the midwife to the Well Child Tamariki Ora nurse.
