Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role
Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a fixed-term, part-time Pou Kōrito – Māori Midwifery Liaison to support ākonga Māori in the Bachelor of Midwifery Programme, until June 2026.
Working with the Bachelor of Midwifery programme team and wider University support services and reporting directly to the Head of Programme – Midwifery, this contract will a provide wrap-around service inclusive of support in clinical learning experience environments, one-to-one and group tutorials, pastoral care, curriculum development, and connecting to university support services for ākonga Māori.
Key responsibilities include the following:
- Student recruitment and retention
- Pastoral care
- Māori curriculum guidance
- Clinical Learning Experience (CLE) development
- Support Te Ara ō Hine funding management
Ō pūmanawa – About you
Key requirements include the following:
- Registered Midwife with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand
- Current APC
- Member of Ngā Maia Māori Midwives o Aotearoa
- Recent kahu pōkai/midwifery clinical practice experience
- Enrolled in postgraduate studies or prepared to enrol
- Understanding of Māori culture and language in the context of midwifery practice
- Proven work in Māori communities
- Eligible to work in NZ and hold a relevant work visa
- Full driver’s licence
