The College employs a Chief Executive who is accountable to the National Committee, professional advisors and administrative personnel, as well a number of contracted personnel.

Karen Guilliland - Chief Executive

RM, RGON, MA (Midwifery), MNZM

Karen leads the strategic development and policy management on behalf of National Committee. Karen provides leadership and direction for the New Zealand College of Midwives team and is currently co-chair of the ICMs' Scientific Planning Committee.

Alison Eddy: Midwifery Advisor Professional Projects and Contracts

RM, RCPN, PG Diploma of Public Health

Alison is a practising midwife and her previous role as Project and Contract Management for the Ministry of Health, along with her experience as a self employed and employed midwife, enables her to manage a variety of contracts and projects that reflect the professionalism of midwifery in New Zealand.

Elaine Gray: Midwifery Advisor - Continuing Education

RM, RN, Diploma in Adult Teaching and Learning, M.Mid

Elaine is a practising midwife and has a wealth of experience as an educator within the maternity services. From her extensive clinical experience she has been able to develop post registration midwifery education in a range of settings and currently delivers education programmes nationally. Lesley Dixon: Midwifery Advisor - Practice Advice and Research

PhD, RM, RN, MA (Midwifery)

Lesley is a practising midwife and worked in England, Germany and New Zealand. Lesley has a good understanding of clinical practice issues, having worked both as self employed LMC midwife and in various employed positions. Lesley leads the College's research programme.

Jacqui Anderson: Midwifery Advisor – Quality Assurance


Jacqui is a practising midwife and has extensive experience in both community and hospital based midwifery care and management. Jacqui was a midwifery undergraduate educator for 15 years. Her wide variety of midwifery clinical and professional experiences support her role in managing the Midwifery Standards Review (quality assurance process for the midwives) and Resolution Committees.

Carol Bartle - Policy Analyst

RN, RM, IBCLC, PGDip Child Advocacy, MHealSc (Otago).

Carol has experience in a range of disciplines linked to maternal and mental health and well-being. Carol brings these skills to her role as policy analyst and provides support to the midwifery advisors.

Maria Scott - Midwifery News Editor and Communications Advisor

Maria is an experienced journalist and editor on newspapers and magazines in New Zealand, Australia and the UK. Maria edits Midwifery News and is responsible for in house media communications.

Hayley McMurtrie - Website and Publications Manager

Hayley has over 16 years marketing experience in the UK and New Zealand with many years within the health sector. Hayley manages the NZCOM and Find Your Midwife websites and is responsible for a range of other College publications.

Kate Clark - Midwifery First Year of Practice (MFYP) National Coordinator

Kate has a background in project management and brings these skills to the coordination the MFYP programme.

Lynda Overton - National Office Manager & Personal Assistant to the CEO

Lynda manages and provides leadership to all the NZCOM office staff. Lynda's administration experience is extensive and includes the Ministry of Health, School of Medicine, Canterbury District Health Board and a private education provider.

Alice Buzan - Receptionist

Alice has a strong background in administration and provides front of house reception and telephone services for the College. As well as coordinating consumer feedback from 22-25,000 women each year, Alice processes all the College's book and resource orders.

Lisa Donkin - Membership Administrator

Lisa’s primary role is the day to day administration of the membership database. Lisa also supports the Education team with administration.

Saili Tuitaupe - MSR and Education National Administrator

Saili manages the administration for bookings for the Midwifery Standards Reviews and the College’s education workshops. Saili also supports the Continuing Education Midwifery Advisor with administration assistance.

Wayne Robertson - Accountant

Wayne is an experienced chartered accountant, a company director nationally and internationally, and provides accountancy oversight of the College's finances on a part-time basis.

Fiona McBeath - Finance Assistant

Fiona supports the College accountant in managing the accounts and day to day operations of NZCOM. Fiona worked in administration and small business accounting prior to joining the administration team.

Annie Oliver - Administrator and Journal Secretariat

Annie is our Journal Secretariat Administrator and provides administration support for midwifery advisors. Annie's background includes a combination of administration roles and writing on topics as diverse as fertility, fashion and business.

Kerry Blackwood - Administration Assistant

Kerry provides general administration to the team, with her primary role membership support to the Membership Administrator and Continuing Education Midwifery Advisor.

Carla Humphrey, Legal Advisor

Carla is a barrister with over 30 years experience. Carla manages the indemnity policy providing individual midwives with a legal service under the terms of the policy.
