As a recent or new graduate, who meets the Midwifery Council and NZCOM enrolment requirements for the Midwifery First year of Practice programme (MFYP), we will assist your transition to practice through a comprehensive orientation, access to midwifery educator support and a range of clinical experiences to help prepare you to become a confident midwifery practitioner.

As a midwife you will be able to use all of your clinical and organisational skills and expertise across pregnancy, birthing and postnatal care. Shift will be rostered across AM, PM and Nights working 8-hour shifts.

As a part of your first year of practice you may have the opportunity to work across both the Wairau and Nelson secondary units, the midwifery led primary unit, and with our community midwifery teams too!! This means you could get to experience all areas of midwifery to find out what you love the most.

We will support you with accommodation and travel to work and experience all of these opportunities as a unique part of our Midwifery First Year of Practice programme. If you like working across more than one area, after your first year of practice – you will also be able to do so! You get to experience the best of Te Tau Ihu!
