Communications Manager

We are seeking an experienced Communications Manager to join the College team. Reporting to the Chief Executive and managing a Communications Assistant, this is a varied role combining strategic communications leadership with the oversight and delivery of communications across the organisation.

About the role

This is a hands on role that includes:

  • Strategic communications planning and organisational messaging
  • Media relations, public relations and reputation management
  • Website, social media, email and member communications
  • Brand management, marketing and campaigns
  • Editorial and production management of the College’s quarterly magazine, Midwife Aotearoa New Zealand
  • Communications support for College projects, events and initiatives
  • Managing external communications providers and suppliers
  • Identifying communications opportunities, emerging issues and reputational considerations

You will work closely with colleagues across the College and build effective relationships with members, stakeholders, media and external providers.

About you

You will be an experienced communications professional who combines strategic thinking with strong practical communications skills.

You will bring:

  • A degree in Communications or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in communications strategy and management
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience across digital communications, websites, social media, publications and media relations
  • A strong understanding of public relations and reputation management
  • Graphic design qualification or relevant experience highly desirable
  • Strong digital and organisational skills
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to changing demands
  • Confidence in providing communications advice and building strong relationships across an organisation

You will be creative, organised, collaborative and adaptable, with sound judgement and demonstrate a commitment to culturally safe and respectful communication.

This full-time Christchurch-based role is an opportunity to lead a diverse communications portfolio and play an important part in how the College connects with its members, stakeholders and the wider public.
